Multidisciplinary artist Tom Stephens creates intimate visual and sonic worlds under the moniker Tesse.
2021 has been a revelatory year for Tom Stephens. While the world seemed to shut down around him, Stephens turned inwards, shifting his focus towards the expansion of his craft. After developing a collection of portraits of Sydney's most exciting artist personalities, Stephens made his directorial debut with 'Better Than I'll Be', a raw and moving piece of cinema written and directed by collaborator Matt Maule. Awarded rotation on rage and MTV, this marked a new era for the Tesse project.
The release of singles 'My Madeline', 'Better Than I'll Be' and 'POWERBALL' (each with their own coinciding visuals) paint a vivid and immersive portrait of the Tesse world and the inner workings of Tom Stephens' mind.
Rich with imagery and themes unique to Australian suburbia, it is impossible not to be moved by its nostalgia.
The sophomore Tesse album 'Everything Trying' will be released on September 22 featuring 13 new songs including singles 'My Madeline', 'Better Than I'll Be' and 'POWERBALL'.
The album was produced by Stephens himself, working alongside renowned Melbourne based engineers Alex O'Gorman (Angie McMahon) and Joe Carra (Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard).
The songs were recorded during 2018-2019 at home as well as a number of studios in NSW and Victoria.
